Ways to Meet Up with Friends

Do you notice how whenever you meet up with your friends, you go to the mall, go shopping, maybe watch a movie as well?  I know I certainly do.  I mean, there's nothing wrong with a movie and shopping every once in a while.  It's just that, go shopping often enough, and you're not really shopping anymore.  You're just aimlessly roaming the mall.  And movies are one of the worst ways to socialise.  Anyone can sit in a dark cinema without talking.  And then when someone does talk, well it's just kind of annoying.

So here are some other more interesting things you could do with your friends:

Go bike riding

This came to mind because it's exactly what I did today, sort of.  Bike riding is great because, number one, it's active.  It's like having fun while exercising!  Wearing cute outfits on bikes is also a very good photo opportunity. ;)  And even if you don't end up bike riding, you can still take photos and soak up the beautiful scenery.  Have a picnic or something!  Go for a walk!  The point is that you're meeting outdoors where you can just go with the flow.  Anything can happen.

Go to a cafe

This is a new concept to me, introduced when this girl I wait with at the front of the school (her parents are always late too) told me about how she and her friends like trying new restaurants and cafes.  Restaurants are much more expensive though, so I'd opt for the cheaper option of cafes.  Meeting up for a meal or a cup of chai latte is a great way to catch up, talk about nothing and do a little gossiping while drinking or eating something delicious.  Who doesn't love food?  I also find that doing this with friends makes you feel very sophisticated.

Go to your nearest theme park or water park

This may be a little hard seeing as a lot of people don't have an amusement park in their city, including me.  Although, if you can get a parent to drive, this is definitely one of the most enjoyable things to do.  All the rides, food and excitement is all worth the admission fee.  One of the easiest ways to make this happen is to go with family friends, because your parents would be more likely to pay, drive or let you go.  A pretty good alternative is also to go to a nearby festival or fete that happens to be going on.

Go to a fun indoor activity

For example, rock climbing, bowling, Flip Out (in the image above), it's a place covered in trampolines.  All these activities are fun active things to do, and they're usually generally pretty cheap.  It should be easy for you to find one in your city.  Just make sure you have a parent there at the beginning, because sometimes there are papers that need to be signed.

Go paddle boating

I also did this today.  This is similar to bike riding, only on the water.  It's another active outdoor activity that allows some great scenery and photos.  Alternatives include canoeing and kayaking.  This generally doesn't take much time though, so maybe have something else planned as well.

Go swimming

You've probably already done this loads of times, but hey why not add it into this list?  I mean, who doesn't love swimming?  If one of your friends has a pool at their house, definitely go there, and make sure you bring some cool pool toys.  Private pools mean you can be as silly as you like, and even have a wet little water fight and an uninterrupted game of marco polo.  If you're going to a public pool, try finding one with a slide ;).

Go go-karting

I've actually never been but it sure does look fun.  Activities such as go-karting and paintball sound like such great competitive ideas.  I reckon they'd be more fun in bigger groups though.

Go ice skating

This is great fun, you know, once everyone's done their couple of laps of the wall and finally made it into the middle.  It's great fun seeing your friends fall onto the ice and trying to skate while all connected in some way.  Outdoor rinks are always more fun.  It's also better if you're all able to skate, because then you can try choreographing dances and trying new tricks together.

Go do some baking

But don't invite too many people, because 'too many cooks spoil the broth'.  Baking is great because at the end you get to decorate and eat some super yummy food, hopefully.  Cleaning up is a pain though, so my advice is to do it at someone else's house and leave a little early ;)  Haha kidding.  Cleaning up will be fine.  With friends, you can make anything fun(ny).

Go do some art

This is another one for the more indoorsy people.  Do a nice team artwork with a friend, or perhaps draw your own each.  You could even have a drawing competition.  It helps if you and your friend have a similar interest.  For example, me and one of my friends both love the same books, and one time we painted a book cover together.  It's also peaceful just randomly drawing your own little sketches while listening to music.

And those are some fun things to do with friends.  So next time you're planning another outing to the mall, try planning one of these activities instead.

As for me, well I think I'm coming down with a fever, so I don't think I'll be meeting up with friends any time soon :(

Love,
M

  1. I love this! I usually go to a restaurant and then sit in a cafe with friends. Shopping with friends is really hard and awkward, I find.

    Hope you're feeling better :(

  6. I love the idea of mixing it up. It feels like the only time I see my friends are school and sports related, so actually taking the time to do something means it should be something special and fun, like something on your list;)
